Description:  Working in close collaboration with, and under the general direction of the Assistant Dean, JD Program, the Director, Student Programs is responsible for providing collaborative and supportive leadership to the Student Life Team, fostering a culture of accountability, high service standards, and a shared commitment to student success.
The Director is responsible for assessing the current performance of programs and services, identifying areas for improvement and emerging issues; overseeing satisfaction/feedback surveys and continually striving to position the Faculty of Law as a leader in extra and co-curricular offerings, student life and experiential programs.
The incumbent supervises, motivates and supports several student services staff who are responsible for delivering key student activities and programs, including in the areas of mentorship, academic support, international exchanges, orientation, student mental health and wellness, and Indigenous initiatives.
The Director, Student Programs works closely with the Assistant Dean, JD Program to develop strategic goals and outcomes, monitor program success, and engage in problem-solving processes.
The Director, Student Programs works closely with the Assistant Dean, EDI to advance equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility across student programs and services.

This is a TERM position of one (1) year.
EDUCATION:  Master’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A J.D. or LL.B. is highly desirable.
Additional graduate degree with a focus on experiential education is also preferred.
EXPERIENCE:  Minimum five (5) years related work experience in a University or other post-secondary education setting.
Experience in legal education and/or in the legal profession.
Experience managing and motivating staff.
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating extra- and co-curricular programs for law students.
Successful record of developing, implementing, and evaluating extra- and co-curricular student programs, services, and initiatives, while integrating best practices of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Experience managing program budgets.
SKILLS:  Strong leadership capabilities; Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization; Excellent judgment and decision-making skills; Extensive knowledge of the objectives of the law school; Familiarity with the Faculty of Law and university environment, including policy-setting bodies and procedures, demonstrated successful experience building and maintaining relationships; excellent oral and written communication skills; effective negotiation skills; excellent interpersonal skills including flexibility, discretion, diplomacy, tact, judgment, and integrity; excellent research and organizational skills; ability to research, identify and implement best practices of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility; ability to work independently and collegially; ability to effectively communicate with academic and non-academic audience; Demonstrated successful experience motivating and collaborating with internal and external constituencies.
OTHER:  Proven analytical, decision making skills and planning ability, including setting priorities; demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, implement, and monitor a wide variety of complex and sensitive projects, both long-term and short term ability to function effectively in situations of considerable stress.
